BEACHES
EAST CHOP BEACH
is located just to the west of the entrance to the Oak Bluffs harbor. Public
access is off East Chop Drive next to the East Chop Yacht Club. This small beach
provides some wonderful views of Nantucket Sound and the colorful harbor boating
activity.
TOWN BEACH
The Town Beach is located between the Steamship Authority Wharf and the shore of
Farm Pond. Life Guards are on duty during the season and access is by car, bike
or on foot.
JOSEPH SILVIA BEACH (State Beach)
Joseph Silvia Beach is approximately 4 miles of pristine beach stretching from
the first bridge after Hart Haven to the town line of Edgartown. Access is by
car, bike, bus or on foot. For most of this beach, there is access across the
street to the shoreline of Sengekontacket Pond. Both the pond and Nantucket
Sound are ideal places to wind surf.
Shellfishing is allowed by special permit only. Permits may be purchased at the
town hall on School Street in the Board of Selectmen Office
